How To Make Banana Ice Cream

How To Make Banana Ice Cream

Whether you are vegan, lactose-intolerant, paleo, raw, or just looking for a healthier dessert, banana ice cream is for you.

Making banana ice cream is ridiculously easy! All you really need are frozen, super ripe bananas and a blender or food processor. I like to do mine with a few extra ingredients though so it tastes a bit more like ice cream and not JUST bananas.

To start you're going to need 4 very ripe bananas (I like to do 2 bananas per person but you can do 1 or 1/2 for a smaller serving or heck, do more bananas for a larger serving, I won't judge!). The riper the banana is the sweeter and less starchy it will be so you can use less sweetener in the finished product. My rule of thumb is, if it's so ripe I don't really want to eat it right out of the peel anymore then it's ready for banana ice cream. (Basically if you'd make banana bread out of it it's ready.) These bananas are ready to be made into ice cream:

Peel the bananas and freeze them overnight or at least 8 hours. It's important to peel your bananas BEFORE you freeze them. I made the mistake of not peeling them first once and it was a real pain to get the peel off. (Some people prefer to leave the peel on and then run the banana under hot water but that rises the temperature of the banana and we want super frozen bananas for our ice cream!) Also, be sure to freeze them at least 8 hours. If you try to make banana ice cream from bananas that are not fully frozen you'll end up with a smoothie, I learned that one the hard way too.

Once your bananas are thoroughly frozen you're ready to make ice cream! Simply blend the bananas with a bit of your favorite nut milk (to help it blend smoothly, if you have a high powered blender you might not need any milk at all), your favorite sweetener to sweeten to taste, and any extras you want and you're done. It really is that simple!

Once your banana ice cream is made you can either eat it right away for a soft serve consistency or freeze it for a few hours to made it firmer.

I added cocoa powder and peanut butter to mine to make banana, peanut butter, chocolate ice cream - my favorite flavor! You can add any mix-ins you want such as nuts, sprinkles, chocolate chips, waffle cones, vanilla extract, peppermint extract, other fruit, the sky is the limit!
