5 Ways I Earned Money Online - And You Can Too!

Everyone's got a side hustle these days! Maybe you're just looking to make a little extra money in your free time or you're a stay-at-home mom or homemaker looking to pay some bills, whatever your situation you can earn some real money online these days. Here's a list of 5 ways that I have earned money online - and you can too.

5 Ways To Earn Money Online - 5 Ways I Made Money Online And You Can Too

Swagbucks

Swagbucks was my first introduction to earning extra dough online. On Swagbucks you earn points for using their search engine, watching videos, completing surveys, and making purchases on websites you order from anyways. Technically you earn gift cards rather than cold hard cash but there are many different companies through which you can redeem your points for gift cards. My personal favorite is Amazon. When I was really strapped for cash during my college years I'd watch Swagbucks videos while watching tv and use the giftcards I earned to buy some extra food - yeah, times were tough. You don't earn a lot compared to the time spent earning points but every little bit adds up!

Bing

Bing is a search engine which gives you points (with a daily cap) for using it. Simply search for things you'd search for anyways, rack up the points, and redeem them for gift cards. Okay, so this is another one that gives you gift cards instead of cash but this one is so easy to use and again, I did it for extra Amazon food money back in my college days.

Direct Sales

Direct Sales has a bit of a bad wrap now-a-days but it shouldn't! It's a legitimate business model which allows real people to start real businesses for a really small investment. If there's a direct sales business whose products you love and are ordering already and sharing with your friends anyways, you might as well earn a little money for your sharing! There are direct sales companies for just about everything these days from makeup to nail art, clothing, food, jewelry, fitness, cookware, and more. I've been a Jamberry consultant for over two years now and in that time I've made far more than I have with all these other methods combined, by a thousand-fold! Not only that but I've learned valuable business skills (which helped prepare me for starting this blog solo), made tons of friends, and gained a lot of confidence in myself. Plus it's fun - you're literally getting paid to throw parties and share products you love with your friends. But don't think you can just join and then be rolling in the dough though, you've got to put in some work. Treat your business like a business and you can make real money. Word of advice if you're new to direct sales, pick a company which does not require you to carry inventory. Most of the accusations that direct sales companies scam their reps comes from those who force you to carry inventory because people either buy more inventory than they can sell or feel pressured into buying more inventory to meet quotas and thus spend more money than they make. There are definitely legitimate direct sales companies which run on the inventory model, however, they do require you to have a higher amount of capital to start your business and really I wouldn't take the risk if you don't already have experience in running your own business. That being said, whether you're just looking for a hobby to make a little side cash or a full-time at-home job, direct sales is the business model of the future and is here to stay, might as well embrace it.

Sell Homemade Or Vintage Items On Etsy

If you're crafty and make homemade items such as quilts, clothing, art work, jewelry, soap, bath bombs, digital products, etc. then you can sell those and make money on Etsy! You can also sell vintage items which you source from thrift stores. I used to market my Jamberry Nail Art Studio wraps on Etsy before Jamberry made a public marketplace for them and I found Etsy very easy to work with. There are small fees associated with putting items up for sale on Etsy and when you make the actual sale but I think they're worth it for the extra exposure your products will get compared to if you just market them on a Facebook page, for example.

Blogging

This is a new one for me! I haven't actually earned money from my blog yet (I did just start it in the past week!) but I'd like to in the future. A good rule of thumb with blogging is, if you wouldn't do it for free then don't bother doing it - because you will be doing it for free at first! But if you enjoy writing and have topics which you are really interested in and want to share with the world then go for it. You can blog about just about anything; food, fashion, parenting, travel, the sky is the limit. Just make sure you do your research first to make sure you know HOW to make money from blogging from things like ads, affiliate links, selling your own products and services, and more.

That's it! Those are the 5 tried and true ways that I've made money online. Some of them are more lucrative than others and all of them require either time or effort (or both) but if you have the time and would like to earn some extra money give them a try.

This list barely scratches the surface of ways to make money online. I only wanted to cover ones which I have personally tried. So tell me, what are your favorite ways to earn money online?

BONUS: ProTypers

Here's a bonus 6th way that I just recently started using. It's a website called ProTypers where you get paid to fill out Captchas. You get paid 70 cents per 1000 Captchas filled and from what I heard people who use it as a side hustle make an average of $200 per month on it. Not too shabby for something that's ridiculously easy to do while watching tv! They pay out weekly on Mondays via Paypal.
